South African nationals are required to apply for a tourist / visitors visa prior to travelling to the UK. The main categories include:

General Tourist Visitor

A General visitor is travelling to the UK as a tourist for a holiday or to visit family and friends there. This visa is issued for a 6 months, 2 years, 5 years or 10 year period. No employment paid or unpaid allowed and the visitor needs to show that he/she has sufficient funds for the full period of your planned stay. Ask a question

Sport Visitor

Sportsperson, amateurs and professionals, going to the UK to take part as an individual or as a team in a specific event or tournament or to attend trials. This visa is also for officials or technical support staff of this amateur or professional sportsperson/s. Ask a question

Business Visitor

When you intend to visit the UK to transact business i.e. to attend meetings, attend an interview or selection process, attending a Trade Fair, arranging deals or attending a board meeting, you have to apply under the Business Visitor rules. This visa can be issued for up to 1 year and is intended for individuals who wish to visit the UK for research or as guest lecturers for example.
